    The story begins with the Buck’s Fizz, a cocktail crafted at London’s Buck’s Club in 1921. This early morning drink used Champagne, complemented by a hint of citrus and sometimes a splash of grenadine. Later in Paris, bartender Frank Meier reimagined the drink into what we now know as the Mimosa, using equal parts sparkling wine and orange juice, and named it after the cheerful yellow-orange mimosa flower. Meier’s recipe officially made its mark in 1934 when it was featured in his influential book, The Artistry of Mixing Drinks.

    As America embraced brunch in the 1930s, the Mimosa rose in popularity. Its status was further solidified by film director Alfred Hitchcock, who famously enjoyed Mimosas during a widely shared 1966 interview. His love for the cocktail helped propel it into American culture, turning it from a trend into a beloved tradition that has maintained its sparkle for decades.

    The Mimosa captivates with its uncomplicated ingredients: just high-quality sparkling wine and fresh orange juice. This simplicity creates a cocktail that feels refreshingly light, sweet, and drinkable—reminiscent of sunshine itself in every sip.

    The preparation is straightforward: pour the orange juice first for that perfect foundation, then add the sparkling wine to keep the bubbles lively and the flavors true. While the ratio can be adjusted based on personal preference, a common guideline is two parts sparkling wine to one part juice. This allows the vibrant citrus notes to shine without overpowering the subtle qualities of the wine.

    For the best experience, freshly squeezed orange juice is highly recommended for its vibrant taste and essential balance of sweetness and acidity. The sparking wine adds not just fizz but a dry, crisp finish that rounds out the drink beautifully.
